Royal Oak SPOOKTACULAR Returns With Dinosaurs, Trick-or-Treating & Halloween Fun (littleguidedetroit.com) — Families in Royal Oak can mark their calendars for the free Spooktacular on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 2–5 p.m. in downtown, centered at Fifth Avenue Pedestrian Park and Centennial Commons. Kids can trick-or-treat at local businesses, meet superheroes and dinosaurs, enjoy music and performances by the Royal Oak High School Dance Team, and support Scare Away Hunger by bringing non-perishable food donations.

Football Roundup: North Farmington hands South Lyon first LVC loss, beats Lions in OT (theoaklandpress.com) — Royal Oak's football team rolled past Pontiac 41-12, improving to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAA Gold after falling behind early on a defensive score. The Ravens' offense, sparked by a short rushing touchdown from Gage Orzel, controlled the rest of the game as part of a busy Week 5 slate for Oakland County teams.

Thousands unite at Detroit Zoo for Walk to End Alzheimer's (clickondetroit.com) — Thousands of walkers filled the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak on Sunday, turning the grounds into a sea of purple to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's research. Families, caregivers, and volunteers shared personal stories, honored loved ones, and emphasized how widespread the disease's impact is across metro Detroit while rallying for more attention and support year-round.

'I'm going to die here:' Lost hiker finds hope with radio signal (sooleader.com) — A 70-year-old Royal Oak man who vanished while hiking alone on Isle Royale survived 11 days by rationing food, scavenging water, and fashioning an antenna to pick up a Thunder Bay radio station that kept his spirits up. After an extensive search, kayakers heard his calls and helped guide a Coast Guard helicopter rescue, leaving him grateful and rethinking solo backcountry trips.
