2 Arrested In Royal Oak Shooting: Police

ROYAL OAK, MI — Two people were arrested in connection with a Royal Oak shooting on Sunday night, according to police.

The shooting happened at 8:40 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of E. Fifth and Williams streets, according to police.

Police said two girls walked into the police department and told officials their car ws struck by gunfire at the intersection.

Before the shooting, the girls told police they got into a fight with another girl in the area.

As they tried to drive away from the area, they told police a man fired shots, which struck their car. No one inside the car was hit by the gunfire, according to police.

Investigators recovered several empty shell casings at the scene. They quickly identified a 20-year-old Detroit man as the shooter. He was arrested, along with a 19-year-old Troy woman, according to police.

They were being held by police as prosecutors were reviewing potential charges.

Police said the incident was a targeted shooting and that there is no danger to the public.

"Fortunately, no one was seriously injured or killed," Royal Oak Police Chief Michael Moore said in a statement. "Thanks to some outstanding collaboration and hard work by our investigators, these dangerous suspects were quickly identified and arrested before they could harm anyone else."
