1. Fight in Royal Oak Leads to Shooting (themetrodetroitnews.com) — Royal Oak police are investigating a Sunday night shooting near East Fifth and Williams streets where a man allegedly fired at two women as they drove away from a fight, striking their vehicle but not injuring them. A 20-year-old Detroit man and 19-year-old Troy woman were arrested, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Royal Oak Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
2. Playoff baseball has Kosmo taking big swings with the Week 6 pigskin picks (theoaklandpress.com) — Royal Oak High's football team heads to Berkley for a crucial OAA Gold matchup, looking to avenge last year's 28-point home loss and stay near the top of the league. Columnist Kosmo expects a tight contest but ultimately picks the road Ravens, while also breaking down several other big Oakland County games this week.
3. Michigan Works! Opens new office in Southfield (theoaklandpress.com) — Residents who once used the Royal Oak Michigan Works! office are now being directed to a new, larger Oakland County Michigan Works! center in Southfield, which replaces both the Royal Oak and a previous Southfield location. The Southfield site offers in-person and virtual help with resumes, job searches, training and employer connections, and serves job seekers and businesses from surrounding communities across Oakland County.
4. Woodward recall bid fails; PAC leading effort vows action for 2028 (bnd.com) — Oakland County Commission Chair Dave Woodward, a Royal Oak Democrat, will stay in office after a recall effort fell far short of the signatures needed.
