ROYAL OAK, MI — A Detroit man has been charged in connection with a Royal Oak shooting earlier this week, according to prosecutors.
Rico Decarlos Jones Jr., 20, was charged with two counts of intent to do great bodily harm less than murder (10-year-felony each) and two felony firearm charges.
He was placed in jail with a $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 9.
A 19-year-old Troy woman was also arrested in connection with the shooting, but investigators later released her.
Prosecutors said Jones got into a fight with an 18-year-old woman in downtown Royal Oak near the intersection of East Fifth Street at Williams Street.
After the fight, the woman and her friend got into a car and tried to drive away, according to prosecutors.
That's when Jones fired several rounds at the car, striking the rear windshield and rear bumper, according to prosecutors.
No one inside the car was injured, according to prosecutors.
"There is never a good reason to use a gun to settle an argument," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "We can be thankful no one was injured. However, the defendant's alleged actions endangered two young women as well as any bystanders and he must be held accountable for his actions."
