Democrat Jeremy Moss is projected to win the race for Michigan's 11th Congressional District, which covers most of Oakland County.
The AP called the race with 66 percent of ballots counted around 9:23 p.m. when Moss had secured 169,899 votes to 108,570 votes for Republican Ethan Baker, who ran unopposed in the GOP primary.
Moss succeeds Democrat Haley Stevens, who first won the seat in 2018. Stevens opted to run for U.S. Senate and lost a close primary matchup against Abdul El-Sayed.
Moss is no stranger to politics, having served in the Michigan State Legislature since 2015.
"I served with Jeremy in the Michigan Senate, and I have seen firsthand how he fights for his constituents and overcomes obstacles to get things done for the people he represents. Jeremy will take his resilience and legislative experience to continue serving Michiganders in the halls of Congress by lowering costs, protecting our freedoms, and holding the Trump administration accountable," Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel said.
