Area Police, Gang Task Force Officers Nab Bank Robbery Suspect

The suspect who allegedly robbed a Royal Oak bank Saturday was taken into custody Monday.

A suspect who got away from an undisclosed amount of cash in a Saturday morning robbery at a Fifth Third Bank branch in Royal Oak was apprehended Monday by a multi-agency task force.

Roy Lee Buck Jr., 44, of Detroit, was taken into custody about 3:15 p.m. Monday when police officers from Royal Oak, Dearborn and Detroit and the FBI’s Oakland County Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force.

Buck was charged with one count of bank robbery, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. He’s being held pending a detention hearing at 1 p.m. Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

Buck has an extensive record, including convictions for breaking and entering, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, receiving and concealing stolen property, fleeing and eluding a police officer, and larceny from a person.

In a statement, Royal Oak Police Chief Corrigan O’Donohue credit a cooperative effort to capture Buck.

“The swift arrest of this suspect was the result of a joint investigation involving the FBI and local police agencies,” he said. “The agents and detectives involved in this case did an exceptional job.”

Buck allegedly passed a teller a note demanding money and said he had a gun when he allegedly robbed the bank at 29710 Woodward Ave. shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses didn’t report seeing a weapon during the robbery, and no one was injured.
