Education and support services available to stroke survivors, caregivers and clinicians
Beaumont Health System’s Stroke Services program invites stroke survivors and their family members, caregivers and friends to attend a community stroke conference, "Stroke: We're All in This Together,” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Best Western Sterling Inn, 34911 Van Dyke Avenue, Sterling Heights. Registration is $10 for community members and $30 for clinicians. It includes breakfast, lunch, exhibits and all workshops. Clinical staff are eligible to receive continuing medical education credits.
Led by a team of doctors and nurses who specialize in stroke, the conference will provide an overview of: stroke; interventions; depression; prevention; rehabilitation and recovery services; and present an interactive discussion and demonstration on risk factors.
Presenters will discuss the importance of seeking immediate medical attention if you’re having difficulty walking, talking, reaching, seeing or feeling – all possible signs a person is having a stroke.

“Don't ignore the signs,” says Sunitha Santhakumar, M.D., director of Stroke Services, Beaumont Health System, Royal Oak. “The quicker a patient seeks medical attention, the better the outcome. If you suspect a stroke, don't drive yourself or a family member to the hospital emergency center, call 911 immediately."
The Beaumont One flight crew will provide helicopter tours, demonstrations and be available to answer questions on Beaumont’s flight service and emergency care for patients.
