Briggs, Sust Royal Oak Citizens of the Year

Several other community members and businesses will be honored at the 68th Annual Community Awards ceremony.

Royal Oak school board president Gary Briggs and community volunteer Lori Sust will be honored later this month as 2015 Citizens of the Year at the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce’s 68th Annual Community Awards ceremony.

The event takes place from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Emagine Theatre. Family members and friends of winners are invited to attend to help celebrate the award winners’ successes and achievements.

“The 68th Annual Community Awards turns the spotlight on all the good happening in our community, serving as Royal Oak’s own People’s Choice Awards,” Chamber Executive Director Shelly Kemp said in a news release. “Royal Oak thrives based on the commitment, work and thoughtful contributions of businesses, volunteers, families, students, homeowners and nonprofit organizations.”

  • Youth Achievement: Katie Colavecchia
  • Police Officer of the Year: Michael Stajich
  • Firefighter of the Year: Timothy Kantzler
  • Business Person of the Year: Aaron F. Belen

Advanced reservations are required to attend the Community Awards banquet and presentation ceremony. The $45 ticket price includes a buffet dinner, the awards ceremony as well as reserved structure parking.
