CALM - Counseling on Access to Lethal Means Training (Suicide Prevention)

Access to lethal means may determine whether a person who is suicidal lives or dies.

Access to lethal means may determine whether a person who is suicidal lives or dies. The free, CALM online course, developed by Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC), explains why means restriction is an important approach to suicide prevention. During the training, individuals:

  • Learn how to ask a person who may be suicidal if he or she has access to items that they could use to harm themselves.
  • Discuss how to work with family members to reduce access to lethal means.

Who should take CALM: mental health clinicians, educators, family members, anyone who comes into contact with someone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts.
