Daughter Stabs Mom at GM Tech Center: Mayor

Hero valet driver credited with saving woman's life with armed intervention.

WARREN, MI – The woman who was stabbed multiple times at the General Motors Tech Center Wednesday morning was allegedly assaulted by her daughter, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said Thursday.

Police and others are hailing valet driver Didarul Sarder as a hero who likely saved the victim’s life when he pulled a handgun and ordered the younger woman drop her knife.

Sarder, 32, head of valet services for the Tech Center, told The Detroit News that his “first reaction was to dry to save this woman’s life” when he saw struggle about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday inside the the lobby of the building at 30001 Van Dyke Ave.

Authorities allege that he victim, 52, was hugging her daughter, 32, when the younger woman suddenly began stabbing her mother in the neck, abdomen and back with the steak knife. Sarder said he re-holstered the gun when he determined she was no longer a threat and called 911.

Police arrived and the suspect, who expected to be criminally charged Friday, was taken into custody. Her mother is recovering from her stab wounds after undergoing surgery.

Fouts told the Detroit Free Press that the two women live together in Oak Park, where the victim is helping her daughter raise two children, ages 11 and 12. Some sort of domestic situation is believed to have occurred between the two women before the victim left for work Wednesday morning, authorities said.
