I have been wanting to do this for such a long time... 4 years in fact. It was just over 4 years ago that my life changed as I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Of course I was in shock at first as I was in my 30's and thought I was too young to have to go thru this. BUT instead of wallowing in pity, my husband and I did what we do best... overcame it all with humor!!
I am cancer free now after having gone through a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery and looking back on that who experience has taught me a few things.
One: " If you have to cry...cry for godsakes and let it all out." I am forever trying to be the tough one, as my dad told me to never let anyone see your weakness (they will prey on it). Holding in those tears doesn't really work all that well as eventually they have to come out and when they do... WATCH OUT! So let it go and invest in a box of really soft tissues :)

Two: "Let others take care of you... you aren't made out of metal." This comes from the whole mentality of not everyone is a superhero (even though I always thought I was) I was blown away by the amount of love and support my husband and I got from so many people. At first I couldn't understand why and then a friend of mine told me..."your whole life you have been taking care of others and putting out love into the world.... now it's coming back to you and all you have to do is accept it."

Three: "Be open and honest with your children." No matter the age, they are smarter than you give them credit for. Even when I was trying to hold back pain, tears or anger at my situation... They knew what was going on. My husband explained what was going on with Mommie so perfectly (he compared Cancer to Pac-Man) which led to more questions from my then 3 and 5 year old. Once I realized I can to tell them everything I was able to let them be a part of my healing. To this day I will always believe that their hugs, kisses and snuggles were better than any pain medication.
I will continue to blog on so many other topics such as: kids, marriage, work, school system and anything else that tickles my funny bone!
Please post comments :)
