Doctor Accused of Threats Against Court Officials May Seek Insanity Defense
The Royal Oak doctor, who is the medical director of a Troy medical marijuana clinic, found competent to stand trial.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A Royal Oak doctor who faces nearly two dozen felony for allegedly threatening to kill Oakland County court officials may seek an insanity defense, his lawyer said Tuesday. Dr. Kumar Singh, 47, was found competent to stand trial Tuesday by 44th District Judge Jamie Wittenberg based on reports from the state Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti
Singh, the medical director at the GreenLite medical marijuana clinic in Troy, is accused of making numerous threats on social media, by phone and by text message targeting Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, members of her staff, a bailiff, a retired judge and others.
Singh was called as a witness in a criminal drug trial about three ago, and authorities believe he still holds a grudge against court officials for what he considers his tarnished reputation. Royal Oak police said a search of Singh’s residence on Sept. 12, 2016, turned up multiple weapons and other evidence that made them believe he planned to carry out his threats.
