Learn to Swim

Swimming is good for you. It's great exercise and since you're in the Great Lakes state, why not learn?

People of all ages and skill sets — from tots to adults, competetive to fish out of water — can register for Royal Oak School District's instructional swim program. The registration date is Dec. 15, from 5:15 pm-6:30 pm at Royal Oak High School's pool lobby.

Whether your swimmer is a tiny tot (ages 1-5, with parent) or all grown up, there's a spot for you.

All classes are held Jan. 8-Feb. 12 and courses are as follows:

Training Program for Competitive Swimmers, ages 7-17, swim 7:30-8:25 am. They must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle to take this course. Cost is $60.

Boys and Girls, ages 6-14, swim 8:3o-9:10 am; 9:15-9:55 am. Cost, $48 per child, $43 for each additional child in the same family.

Tiny Tots, ages 3-5 (without parent), 10am-10:30 am. $48 per child, $43 for each additional child in the same family.

Tiny Tots, ages 1-5 (with parent). 10:35 am-11:05 am. $32 per child, $27 for each additional child in the same family.

Adaptive Swim Class, all ages. 11:10 am-11:40 am. Designed for children with special needs. Class focuses on beginning skills, water acclimation, safety and fun. $48 per child, $43 for each additional child in the same family.

Individual Lessons, children and adults. 11:10-11:40 am. $20 per half hour, mininum five lessons.

Bring bathing suit, towel, and lock to secure clothing and valuables.

For non-residents, there is an additional $5 charge per registrant.
