Artist Nora Chapa Mendoza was born in 1932, but lucky for us she came to Michigan where she has been named "Michigan Artist of the Year" and was a recipient of the Governor's Arts Award. In 1996 she was one of eight artists that participated in the renovation o Detroit’s Music Hall.
She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work is represented among many important collections around the world. Among her collectors are such notables as Detroit's former Mayor Dennis Archer, singer Aretha Franklin, and the former president of General Motors, Jack Smith.
Corporate collectors include the Ford offices in Rockefeller Plaza in New York and Edison Plaza in Detroit. Her work is also in General Motors offices and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan all in Detroit.
