Ferndale Wellness Center Giving Away Free Baby Formula

FERNDALE, MI — A wellness center in Ferndale will be giving away free baby formula to mother's in need amid the nationwide baby formula shortage.

Honey. For Moms, located at 3138 Hilton Rd. between Woodward Heights and Interstate 696 will distribute the formula every Monday through Friday as the shortage continues.

Moms can walk in anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to pick up the formula. The center will also accept donations of unopened baby formula.

The nationwide baby formula shortage has worsened since a Michigan plant was force to shut down in February after federal officials traced a bacterial infection, which sickened four babies-two of which died-back to the plant.

Some states have seen out-of-stock rates reach 90 percent or greater, including Georgia who's 94 percent rate was the worst in the country, according to Bloomberg News. Michigan's out-of-stock rate was at 67 percent, placing the state somewhere in the middle of the crisis.

Abbott confirmed its Michigan plant in Sturgis was expected to reopen Saturday.
