How to un-thread the dreadful conversation in-box style of Gmail.

Over the years, we have successfully migrated dozens, if not hundreds of clients away from their Internet Service Provider (ISP) hosted e-mail accounts (at comcast.net, att.net, sbcglobal.net, wowway.com, etc.) to free accounts hosted at live.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com, or gmail.com.

The reasons for this migration are numerous:

  • E-mail accounts hosted with ISPs generally have a smaller limit, so mail boxes end up filling up quickly
  • If you change your internet from DSL to Cable or vice-versa, you lose your e-mail address  One of the main complaints that some of our clients have had regarding Google hosted e-mail is Google's threaded e-mail interface, where e-mails are grouped by subject. The good news is that these e-mails can now be un-threaded, and presented in a more traditional-looking e-mail format! Here's how:

Steps to enable Unthreaded Gmail (or disable Conversation View):
    1. Click Settings (top right corner)
    2. On the General tab, under Conversation View, click Conversation view off. 3. Click Save Changes (at the bottom)
  • Voila! Your e-mail is now un-threaded (or de-coupled).
