Man Injured In Hatchet Attack At Oakland County Home: Police

Police said the attack stemmed from a separate incident involving a family member.

HAZEL PARK, MI — A man was injured in a hatchet attack Thursday morning at an Oakland County home, according to police.

The attack happened at 2:20 a.m. Thursday at a home on E. Nine Mile Road in Hazel Park, according to police.

Police said a 31-year-old Royal Oak man went to the home with two friends to pick up another friend.

While at the home, a 51-year-old Hazel Park man confronted the Royal Oak man about an incident that involved a family member, according to police.

During the argument, the Hazel Park man grabbed a hatchet from the dining room wall and swung it at the victim’s head, according to police.

The Royal Oak man raised his hand to protect his head, but suffered a severe cut to his hand, according to police.

He then ran from the home with another friend as the suspect chased them, according to police.

The suspect caught up to the victim and struck him again, this time in the face with the hammer end of the hatchet, according to police.

The victim was then driven to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police.

Officers searched the home and arrested the 51-year-old Hazel Park man in connection with the attack. They also found the hatchet and blood evidence at the scene, according to police.

He was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm (10-year felony). Police did not immediately release his name.
