Elementary Students Raise Money for Gilda's Club

Oakland Elementary Student Council collects for cancer support community.

All year, but especially around the holidays, organizations like Gilda's Club in Royal Oak are in need of donations.

The Oakland Elementary Student Council recognized that need and wanted to do something about it—so they did. The students collected $354 for the cancer support community through various fundraisers.

On Wednesday, students delivered a big check to Development Director Debbie Taxe of Gilda's Club. In gratitude, Taxe gave the children lapel pins, a plaque and took them on a tour of the 9,000-square-feet cancer support facility named after comedienne and actress Gilda Radner.

"As you can see, this is a very big house. There is so much we can do with with your gift," Taxe told the children.
