OCHN Recognizes April as Alcohol Awareness Month
Oakland Community Health Network is joining world-wide efforts to raise awareness for individuals living with substance use disorder (SUD).

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI (April 1, 2022) – April is globally recognized as Alcohol Awareness month, and Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) is joining world-wide efforts to raise awareness and increase understanding for individuals living with substance use disorder (SUD).
Sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD), Alcohol Awareness Month was established to help reduce the stigma so often associated with alcoholism by encouraging communities to reach out to the American public each April with information about alcohol, alcoholism, and recovery.
According to the NCADD, a site dedicated to offering valuable resources for millions of people struggling with alcoholism and addiction, alcohol is the most used addictive substance. In the United States: 17.6 million people, or one in every 12 adults, suffer from alcohol abuse or dependence. It is also stated that more than half of all adults have a family history of alcoholism or problem drinking.

OCHN continues to collaborate closely with community partners on early prevention strategies to promote recovery. Early intervention helps prevent substance use and as well as reduce addiction.
This year, the Alcohol Awareness Month theme is, “Changing Attitudes: it’s not a rite of passage.” According to the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADC), this theme serves as a reminder for those in recovery, and those who support them, that they are not alone. Everyone’s journey is different, but we are all in this together.
