OMG, You Can Un-Send a Text Message: Here's How

Once you hit "send," it's too late to retrieve a text message, right? Not necessarily. Here's how to save yourself a ton of embarrassment.

You never actually intended to break up by text, text your ex that you miss him or her, talk about your private parts in a text you thought was going to your doctor, or text anything — anything at all, but especially those ideas for reorganization — to your boss.

Too late, right?

No.

Michigan television station WZZM-TV tested reports that have been making the rounds and said that if the hapless texter acts quickly enough, the delivery of a text can be stopped, even after hitting “send.” Face can be saved.

To create a message failure that blocks cell and WiFi signals from reaching your phone:

  • iPhone users, swipe up from the bottom the moment you send the text and select airplane mode in the settings.
  • Android users, swipe down with two fingers the moment you send and select airplane mode in the settings.

In this video, WZZM — which said success can hinge on the size of the message and how fast you can tap into airplane mode — offers the lowdown.
