It's Cinco de Mayo – a celebration of the May 5, 1862, Battle of Puebla, in which outnumbered Mexican troops defeated French soldiers.

The day is steeped in lessons of history and freedom, but it's become an unofficial holiday reserved for celebrating Mexican culture, food, margaritas and cervezas.
