Rabid Skunks Found, Man Exposes Himself at Business

Highlights of recent reports:

Rabid skunks found
Officers responded to two rabid skunk calls: in the 1700 block of Maxwell and the 200 block of Dewey. Police said the skunks were euthanized and removed for disposal. This is the third rabid skunk found by police recently. The first was found April 15.

Man exposes himself at business

An unknown man exposed himself to a Royal Oak business owner on May 3 before running away from the business located in the 2900 block of Woodward Avenue. The woman described the suspect as a 5-foot, 7-inch 50-year-old man with black and grey hair and a black goatee and said he left in a white vehicle. According to police, the man made the appointment at the business under the name of Scott.

Defendant jailed for being drunk at trial
On Wednesday, police responded to the  house on a call that a woman was drunk in the courtroom. The woman had a jury trial for an assault and battery charge and during proceedings it was discovered she was drunk. The woman was arrested for contempt of court and was sentenced to two days in the Oakland County Jail, per District Court Judge Daniel Sawicki. 

6 businesses cited for selling to minors

For the past two weeks, the Royal Oak Police Department has been conducting Liquor Control Commission checks on various businesses selling alcohol. The officers worked with underage decoys who attempted to buy alcohol with their valid IDs. Out of the 26 businesses tested, six were cited for selling to a minor.

Cars broken into at Lindell Ice Arena
On April 29, a woman said an unknown person smashed the passenger window of her 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe while it was parked in the parking lot and stole her Coach purse. According to police, the purse contained several credit cards, identification and currency. On May 2, a man reported an unknown person entered his 2004 Chevy Suburban also parked at the ice arena and stole his laptop.

Evicted tenant charged with trespassing
On April 29, a complainant reported to police that a recent evictee returned to his former apartment at 122 W. Fifth St. and went inside without permission. According to police, when they arrived the man refused to come out. The officers were finally able to talk the man into coming out of the apartment and he was arrested on charges of trespassing.

Man arrested for breaking apartment window
A man told police that on April 30 he saw an unknown man in the alley behind an apartment in the 600 block of South Center Street kick and break one of the basement windows. The witness said the man left in a vehicle. Police found the vehicle occupied by six men. According to police, the suspect was identified and arrested on charges of malicious damage to property.

Apartment broken into
A woman living in the 2300 block of 14 Mile Road told police that on May 1 an unknown suspect entered her apartment and stole her Bose IPOD speakers, VCR and some flowers.

GPS stolen from Jeep
On May 3, a woman reported someone smashed the window of her 2008 Jeep parked at Center and Sixth streets and stole her GPS.
