Royal Oak Among '10 Actually Cool American Suburbs'

ROYAL OAK, MI – Royal Oak picked up more bragging rights this month.
Gogobot.com included Royal Oak in a list of “10 American suburbs that are actually cool.”

Here’s why Gogobot’s managing editor, Julia Pond, said the suburb of Detroit made the cut:
“Detroit is already a hipster capital, so it makes sense that its suburbs are feeling it, too. Royal Oak has a walkable downtown, lots of nightlife, local shopping, a Drag Queen Bingo Brunch at Five 15 Media Mojo and great live music at Luna Lounge … for a start.”

In general, the suburbs listed escaped the “desperation of picket fences” that define many American suburbs because they have nightlife, craft beer and yoga, and are teeming with young people.
The other cool suburbs, listed in no particular order, are:

- West Des Moines, IA, suburb of Des Moines
- Davis, CA, suburb of Sacramento
- Somerville, MA, suburb of Boston
- Freeport, NY, suburb of New York City
- Roswell, GA, suburb of Atlanta
- Evanston, IL, suburb of Chicago
- Coral Gables, FL, suburb of MIami
- North County, CA, suburb of San Diego
