Royal Oak, Berkley Schools To Commemorate MLK Jr.
The virtual event will take place at Royal Oak Middle School, and will feature a freedom march around the school.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Royal Oak Public Schools announced Friday it will join Berkley schools to honor Martin Luther King at at Royal Oak Middle School on Jan. 17, according to a news release.
The "Day On" event will take place at 9:30 a.m. and will feature students, staff, and community members celebrating Dr. King’s legacy. It will also include speakers, the Detroit Youth Choir, testimonials on what Dr. King and his "I have a dream" speech mean to you and a freedom march around the school, the news release said.
Viewers can participate in the event virtually on the school districts Facebook pages. There will be a performance by the Detroit Youth Choir, a keynote speech by Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Coordinator for Royal Oak Schools and messages from both school's superintendents, the news release said.

However, guests are invited to participate in the freedom walk the at 10:30 a.m., with the first 200 guests that participate will receive an event t-shirt. The walk will start at the middle school located in Royal Oak at 709 N Washington Ave, the news release said.
