Royal Oak Boys Track Team Opens Season with Win
Young team shows great potential in big victory over Hazel Park.
The boys varsity track team opened the season with a 99-25 victory over Hazel Park at home Tuesday.
The meet was a good starting point for the team. Senior Jared Vier won three individual events and was on one winning relay team, senior Robert Gibson won both throwing events and senior Adam Quinn dominated the middle distances.
There were also standout performances by freshman Ben Hill in the 1600 (4:41) and big contributions from newcomers freshmen Jake Smith and Marcio Foster in the sprints.

"We've got a lot of potential, but a ways to go before we reach that potential," Coach Ryan Piippo said. "Fortunately, we have a great mix of young or inexperienced talent and senior leadership."
The team now gets a break until after spring break.
