Royal Oak City Commissioners Still Examining Civic Construction Project
Combining city hall with condominium project may not fly after all.

(Originally posted on Dec. 8, 2016) ROYAL OAK, MI — The Royal Oak City Commissioners is adjusting its plans for a $100 million civic center project, and could abandon a public-private partnership with the Boji Group and Surnow Company, the Royal Oak Review reported.
At the Nov. 28 City Commission meeting, commissioners decided to use the money that would have been spent to develop the civic center to a stand-alone City Hall structure. In a public-private partnership, the city would be a tenant.
The public-private scenario hasn't been popular with residents, even the city has said tax dollars wouldn't be used to build it.

The various concerns raised by the residents were enough for city officials to begin studying the idea of a stand-alone City Hall, though nothing is settled yet.
