Royal Oak Man Arrested After 3-Hour Standoff With Officers: Police
Police said the man barricaded himself inside a home with his wife and children after a report of a domestic assault.
ROYAL OAK, MI — A man was arrested Monday night after assaulting someone inside a Royal Oak home and then locking himself inside the home from officers for several hours, according to police.
Police said officers arrived at a home in the 1600 block of Whitcomb Street, near North Campbell Road shortly before 5 p.m. for a domestic assault. When officers arrived at the home, they found a 46-year-old man locked inside the home with his wife and two kids, police said.
Officers tried communicating with the man, but he refused to leave the home and showed signs of experiencing a mental health crisis, according to police.

Officers also learned the man recently bought long guns and was wearing a bulletproof vest during the standoff, according to police.
Police did not say if the man was armed with a gun during the standoff.

Police urged residents in the area to stay inside their homes as officers talked to the man, trying to get him to exit the home.
The man finally walked out of the home around 10 p.m. Monday night and at some point officers tased him and placed him under arrest in connection with the incident, according to police.
The 46-year-old man suffered minor injuries after being tased, but no one else was injured in the incident, according to police.
The woman and children inside the home were not injured during the standoff, and it was unclear who in the home reported the initial assault, or if anyone was even injured, according to police.
Officers also found multiple weapons, ammunition, night vision goggles and a tactical vest inside the home, according to police.
The 46-year-old man, whom police did not identify, is facing charges for assault and domestic assault, according to police.
Police were still investigating the incident.
