Royal Oak Man Struck, Killed Trying To Cross 13 Mile Road: Police

​The man was attempting to cross Thirteen Mile Road, outside the area of the crosswalk, when he was struck.

ROYAL OAK, MI — An 84-year-old Royal Oak man was killed Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle, Royal Oak Police said.

Police said officers and paramedics responded to the scene at E. Thirteen Mile Road near Campbell Road at 8:10 p.m. and transported the man to Beaumont Hospital where he died.

The man was walking south across Thirteen Mile Road, outside a crosswalk, when he was struck by the 19-year-driver traveling westbound, police said.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle that struck the man were not injured and remained on the scene, officials said.

Police determined alcohol was not a factor in the incident.

Officials said several lanes of 13 Mile Road were closed for a short time.
