Royal Oak Parks Targeted for Improvement with Federal Grants

Dondero and Worden parks will remain open while the work is going on.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Two Royal Oak parks — Dondero and Worden — are undergoing improvements with federal Community Development Block Grant funding.

At Dondero Park, s located north of 10 Mile Road and west of Campbell Road at the intersection of Dondero Avenue and Hoffman Avenue, basketball and tennis courts are being resurfaced and the baseball diamond and outfield will be regraded, according to posts on the city's Facebook page.

Also, new tennis nets, basketball hoops and baseball bases will be installed.

The work is scheduled to take place through August and September. The tennis and basketball courts will be open to the public shortly after the resurfacing work is complete. The baseball field will remain closed this fall to allow the outfield grass to take root.

Parking lot improvements will be made at Worden Park, located east of Crooks Road on the north side of Lexington Boulevard.

The parking lot in front of the Total Soccer building will be resurfaced. As part of the project, a rain garden will be installed along the middle of the lot.

The work is scheduled to take place throughout the month of August. The sports facilities will remain open, and parking will be available in the adjacent lot to the west.
