Royal Oak, MI -- Royal Oak SAFE, a diverse, collaborative task force of elected officials, youth, community leaders, law enforcement professionals, advocates, parents, mental health professionals and survivors is working year-round to promote mental health and wellness and prevent the epidemic of suicide and suicide attempts. Founded in 2013, Royal Oak SAFE's founder, City Commissioner Peggy K. Goodwin, was appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Southeast Michigan Chapter this month. Monday, April 7 @ 7:30 p.m. 211 Williams Street - City Commission Chambers
The Royal Oak City Commission will give HAVEN and Royal Oak SAFE a proclamation in honor of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Â Join Royal Oak SAFE task force member Liz Bayer of HAVEN and others in support of this proclamation. Â In addition to sexual assaults being under-reported and prosecuted, the AFSP reports a strong link between victims of sexual assault, suicide attempts and suicide. Wednesday, May 28: Â Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak Mental Health Fair from 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.Â
Royal Oak SAFE has been invited to participate in Beaumont Hospital of Royal Oak's Mental Health Fair by the staff of 9 Center Psychiatry.  The fair will have a wealth of resources and information about mental health and wellness and suicide prevention. The event takes place on Wednesday, May 28th from 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the South Tower of Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital,  Suite 100 in the hallway.Â

Royal Oak SAFE meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Mahany/Meininger Senior Center at 3500 Marais in Royal Oak. Â The next two meetings are:
