Son Fatally Shoots Mother, Injures Another In Royal Oak: Police

Police said the shooting happened Thursday night under on Woodward Avenue under the I-696 underpass.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Police arrested a Troy man Thursday night for fatally shooting his mother in a car and injuring another woman in Royal Oak near the Pleasant Ridge border, the Oakland County Sheriff's office said.

Officers responded to reports of an accident and multiple gunshots on northbound Woodward Avenue under the Interstate 696 overpass at 10:30 p.m.

Officers located the accident and discovered the 52-year-old woman driver from Southfield shot to death from a single gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Officials said the 22-year-old man was in the passenger seat of the vehicle when he fatally shot the woman, which was his mother.

The man then exited the vehicle and fired at three other passing vehicles, in which a woman was struck in the leg, officials said.

The 43-year-old Ferndale woman was transported to William Beaumont Hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

Officials quickly arrested the man and placed him in the Oakland County jail, police said.

Police also found a 9mm handgun at the scene, officials said.

No further details were released. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
