Royal Oak Students to Show Legislators How Computers Are Used in Learning

Students from Royal Oak’s Upton Elementary School will join students from about 30 other Michigan schools Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the 14h annual Student Technology Showcase at the state capitol building in Lansing.

They will use computers and other electronic devices to show members of the Michigan State
Senate and House of Representatives how technology is used in the classroom to facilitate learning.

The projects will cover a wide variety of learning areas including science, mathematics, social studies and language arts.
Taking part in the demonstrations from Upton Elementary are third-grade students Lukas Elsner, Madison Connor and Tyler Madsen, along with teacher Jeremy Letkiewicz and Allyson Dewar, the technology integration specialist for Oakland County schools.
The third graders will demonstrate how they use a variety of tech tools such as Mimeo interactive whiteboard, iPads and Chromebooks to create unique, hands-on, real world learning opportunities that promote higher level thinking skills and creativity.
The Showcase is sponsored by AT&T, TRIG, Michigan Department of Education, and Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL), an organization dedicated to bringing educators together to share educational uses of computers and technology.
