Royal Oak Taking Applications for Civil Service Commission

The commission administers the city's merit positions. Applicants must live in Royal Oak and be registered voters.

The city of Royal Oak is taking applications from the community to fill a vacancy on its Civil Service Commission, which administers the merit system for all positions in the city.

The Civil Service Board is made up of five registered voters in the city appointed by the city commission for a term of three years. Vacancies are filled by the commission for unexpired terms, according to a news release.

The board has the power to set and enforce rules and regulations for carrying into effect the provisions of Ordinance No. 314, which establishes the merit system for the civil service of the city of Royal Oak.

From time to time, the board may add to, amend or rescind rules. The board has the power to conduct and supervise all examinations and other tests for fitness to determine the qualifications of applicants for the city’s service. It keeps minutes of its own proceedings and record of its official actions.

The Human Resources Director is the liaison to the Board, furnishing members with pertinent information and items requiring its official action.
