Royal Oak Teachers Cheer Wayne State to NCAA Championship Game
Detroit-based university plays in its first national championship football game on Saturday.

Some Royal Oak teachers couldn’t be prouder to see the Wayne State University Warriors headed to their first national championship football game this weekend against Pittsburg State.
The Warriors' first bid for a national pigskin crown has attracted the attention of everyone from students and alumni to sportswriters at The New York Times. The newspaper is calling the Warriors (12-3 overall) a "Cinderella" team.
The Division II championship game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in Florence, AL, to be broadcast live on ESPN2.

Here’s what a few Royal Oak teachers (and one editor) have to say:
- Steve Lawson (): I'm a proud WSU alum.
- Donna Knaus (): I am a WSU Alumni – undergrad and graduate school. (Unfortunately, they were the WSU Tartars not Warriors when I attended!)
- Kristin Ryan (): Both Kevin Ryan () and myself went there! Our son is a freshman there now. Not on football team though!
- Kristen Elsner (ROHS): I'm a proud Wayne State grad (BS & MA)!
- Mike Conrad (ROHS): I am an alum and a current MAT student at Wayne!
- Judy Davids (Royal Oak Patch Editor): I, too, am a WSU alum. I was the bat girl for the baseball team (they were Tartars back then) while I was a student. My husband is a Wolverine and my son a Spartan, so it’s with great joy that MY team will be the one to play for a national championship!
Wayne State fans and alumni who would like to purchase tickets for Saturday's game are requested to go through the North Alabama ticket office, according to information posted on the Wayne State athletics website. To order your seats online click here. All seats are reserved and priced at $20.
