Royal Oak Woman Had Long Drunken Driving Record Before Fatal Crash

Jenell Capreice Bailey's driver's license had been suspended a couple of dozen times in the past decade, according to public records.

Eastpointe, MI — A Royal Oak woman involved in a deadly crash in Eastpointe Wednesday had a history of drunken driving anddidn’t have a valid driver’s license, according to state records.

Police said Jenell Capreice Bailey, 47, failed to stop at a stop light on northbound Gratiot Avenue near 10 Mile Road around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday and rear-ended a vehicle driven by Pavlos Dion, 65, of Frasher, who died a short time later at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit.

The Macomb Daily said its analysis of public records shows Bailey had three prior drunken driving arrests in the past decade and her license has been suspended or revoked more than two dozen times.

Before the crash, police said they had received multiple calls about Bailey’s driving, WWJ reported. She was allegedly speeding, weaving in and out of traffic and running red lights.

Bailey, who suffered a broken arm in the crash, failed several field sobriety tests, according to reports.

Bailey was arraigned by video from her hospital bed on Thursday and charged with second-degree murder, operating while intoxicated causing death, and operating while her license was suspended causing death.

Her bond was set at $750,000 by 38th District Magistrate Karen Haydett.
