Royal Oak's Ashley Winbush Heading to State Championships in Shot Put, Discus
The Royal Oak High School athlete qualified for the state track and field championships with second-place finishes at the Division 1 Regionals in West Bloomfield.
WEST BLOOMFIELD – 's Ashley Winbush placed second in the discus and shot put at the Division 1 regionals at on Saturday, qualifying for the state track and field championships.
Winbush shot-putted 35' 9 1/2" and hurled the discus 113 feet, 6 inches. The girls team finished in 11th place overall with a score of 27 points.
Mika Matlock finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.06 seconds, while Morgan Kempf finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.37.

For the boys, who finished in 12th place, Adam Quinn set a personal record with a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 42 seconds, while Blaine Anderson also set a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07 as he placed seventh. Max Benoit took fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:22, and Ben Pryde took seventh in the same race as 10:27. All scores were personal records.
In the 3,200-meter relay, the Ravens placed sixth, led by Leonard Jackson, Dominic Notarantonio, Quinn and Benoit, at 8:47.
