Running Scared: Fireworks Traumatize Pets

Animals are much more likely to get lost from darting outside when usually they ARE INSIDE.

Pets ARE TRAUMATIZED FROM THE SOUND OF FIRE WORKS (from drunken adults into all hours of the night, my words). All ANIMALS HAVE MUCH MORE sensitive hearing than humans. More dogs get hit and sometimes even killed by cars.

The shelters are overflowing with animals that are simply traumatized. Ask any shelter, this is their worst time of the year because bombs exploding are not a natural occurrence for them.

Cats should be kept indoors if you live in a city setting. And, during this time put a break away collar with a phone number, name and address so they can get home after they accidentally find that they have run through an open window. The quick release collars help keep them from accidentally getting hung and dying because they are not used to bushes and branches. The world is dangerous for indoor cats.

They say posters are the number one way of getting cats home SO if your pets are like your children have recent photos. HELP THE SHELTERS. BRING THEM A PICTURE. DON'T CALL WITH A DESCRIPTION. They are very busy this time of year.

A TIP FOR GETTING KITTY HOME

This sounds nasty, but it works. I know it worked for me.
Put on some plastic gloves and take some litter from their box. It will still have their odor on it and do a Hansel and Gretel routine. Sprinkle it around your home. Be discreet and most people will never even think to ask.  Even walk around the block.

I have worked so much with animals over the years, and they get so scared. Many get lost or killed because we insist on blowing up the sky this time of year.
