Spooktacular, Smashing Pumpkins, More Halloween Fun this Weekend in Royal Oak

The fun continues all weekend long with family-friendly events. Be sure to wear a costume!

More than 50 downtown Royal Oak businesses will offer candy, treats, games and other specials to Halloween trick-or-treaters as Spooktacular returns for the 31st year from 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

There’s lots more going on around town to celebrate the season of ghoul.

From 6-8 p.m. tonight (Friday), enjoy Halloween at the Y at the South Oakland Y, 1016 W. Mile Road. The fun includes a haunted house, trick-or-treating and ghoulish games. Family-friendly costumes are encouraged at the party, which is free.

From noon-2 p.m. Saturday, the Royal Oak Public Library will present Funtastic Halloween, billed as a “merry, not scary” event that includes Halloween games, crafts, and activities. Wear your Halloween costume (or come as you are). Drop in anytime during the festivities, but make sure to allow enough time to circulate around the various activities. Fun for the whole family!

Also on Saturday, the Detroit Zoo is presenting an encore of its Smashing Pumpkins enrichment event for zoo animals. That takes place from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Zoo staff give animals pumpkins, treat-filled pumpkin-shaped baskets and other enrichment items to eat, play with, roll around in, tear apart and smash.
