Suspect Grabs Purse, Royal Oak Police Nab HIm for Much More

Two suspects were arraigned on felony charges after police found drugs and determined getaway car was stolen.

ROYAL OAK, MI – Police discovered a stolen car, marijuana and open bottles of alcohol when they tracked down a suspect in the theft of a customer’s purse from Mr. B’s Bar, 215 S. Main, at 2:08 a.m. Sunday.

The Royal Oak Police Department said Ivan Sheppard, 24, of Detroit, allegedly grabbed the purse and fled from bar to a vehicle in the municipal parking lot near the business. Two other men were in the vehicle, and the purse, along with a concealed knife, were found in Sheppard’s possession, police said.

All three were arrested without incident, police said.

Sheppard, 24, and Ashton Currie, 21, both of Detroit were arraigned before Magistrate Donald Chisholm in 44th District Court on Monday.

[RECIRC[Sheppard was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and larceny in a building. Chisholm set his bond at $25,000, no 10 percent.

Currie, one of the passengers, was charged with receiving and concealing stolen property and possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $50,000, no 10 percent.

The third suspect, who wasn’t named by police, was charged with a misdemeanor violation for possession of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.

300 block of N. Troy, 4-15-16 – 4-16-16, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 a.m.: Complainant reported she left her red walker in the lobby of the complex. When she returned she discovered it had been stolen by an unknown suspect. 16-13860

4840 Briarwood, 4-18-16, 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect had stolen a UPS package delivered to her apartment. The package was left outside of her apartment door. 16-13797

1000 block of Sherman, 4-23-16 – 4-25-16, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect entered an unsecured garage and stole numerous pieces of vinyl siding stored inside. 16-14401

Larceny from Automobile

3000 block of W. Thirteen Mile, 4-24-16, 2:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Complainant reported he parked his 2008 Chevrolet Impala in an apartment complex parking lot. When he returned he discovered an unknown suspect had broken into his vehicle by damaging the door lock. The suspect stole two (2) speakers, an amplifier, pair of sunglasses, and attempted to steal the in-dash navigation system. 16-14204

1700 block of Wickham, 4-24-16, 5:20 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Complainant reported she parked her vehicle in a lot behind her residence. When she returned she discovered an unknown suspect had broken out the rear driver side passenger door window and stole a black tote bag containing miscellaneous items. 16-14193

Malicious Destruction of Property

1903 Rochester (Michigan Educational Credit Union), 4-21-16, 8:30 a.m. – 5:40 p.m.: Complainant reported she parked her car in the parking lot. When she returned she discovered an unknown suspect had broken the rear windshield with a rock. 16-13793

800 block of Butternut, 4-22-16 – 4-23-16, 3:30 p.m. – 7:49 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect shot a front window of the residence with a BB gun. The BB penetrated the first pane of the double pane window but did not enter the home. 16-14086

800 S. Washington, 4-20-16, 8:00 a.m.: An officer observed graffiti spray painted on a Dumpster enclosure. The owner was notified to have the graffiti removed. 16-14025
