Teen Expelled in Threat to Kill Student, 'Shoot Up' School

CLARKSTON, MI – A 16-year-old student from Independence Township faces expulsion from high school and possible criminal charges after he allegedly threatened to kill a classmate and “shoot up” Clarkston High School.

When questioned by Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies, the student reportedly admitted he had threatened to kill a 16-year-old female classmate on Friday after some sort of dispute in their fourth-hour class, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The teen claimed that he was only joking, that he and the female classmate are friends and that he would never hurt her, police said.

She reported the alleged threat to her fourth-hour teacher.

As for the threat to “shoot up” the school, the student said that occurred two years ago, police said.

That’s not how witnesses told the story.

“Per a witness and school officials, the suspect had been talking to a group of students and stated that he hated everyone in the school,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “According to the witness, the responsible stated that he would have shot up the school if he could have gotten into his father’s shed.”

The suspect’s father told police there’s only one gun in the family’s home, and it is secured, and there are no weapons in the shed.

The The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
