Tennis & Golf Co. Serves Up Free Tennis Racquets for Kids July 13

The Tennis & Golf Company, the largest specialty tennis shop in the Midwest, will be giving away tennis racquets to the first 250 kids on Saturday, July 13 beginning at 9 a.m. as part of its “Kid’s Day” celebration.

The offer is available to children 12 years of age and under. In addition to the FREE tennis racquet, Kid’s Day will also include a scavenger hunt, lots of prizes and fun games for the entire family.

“Not only is tennis fun to play, the game helps youngsters develop and improve motor skills, establish healthy lifestyle patterns, and is an activity that families can do together,” said Andy Schepper, co-owner and CEO of The Tennis & Golf Company. “We’re excited to be part of the Royal Oak community and look forward to meeting our new neighbors at this fun-filled event on the 13th.”

The Tennis & Golf Company has been a long-time fixture in Royal Oak and the destination for quality tennis and golf apparel, equipment and service. Located at 30211 Woodward Ave., the specialty shop recently was purchased by experienced sporting-goods retailers Steve Kopitz and Schepper. For 25 years Kopitz owned Summit Sports, with multiple locations in Michigan, including its ski shop Don Thomas Sporthaus, in Birmingham, and online ski retailer Skis.com. Schepper worked with Kopitz at Summit Sports for more than 20 years, including serving as COO with Summit Sports.

“The Tennis & Golf Company’s reputation for quality and service over the years spread far beyond the metro Detroit area, but it could use a little refresh,” said Kopitz. “We are committed to improving upon the best aspects of the shop and delivering unparalleled service to not only its regular customers, but also to new customers.”

The spacious, 18,000-square-foot store offers a “shop within a shop” feel with knowledgeable, experienced sales staff in every department. The Tennis & Golf Company features cutting-edge apparel, footwear and equipment, as well as a “hitting lane” where a ball machine shoots tennis balls from a far wall so customers can try out any demo racquet from brands Wilson, Head, Babolat, Völkl and Yonex before making a purchase.

Trained staff can fit customers with the right grip and recommend the appropriate strings and tension for their style of play. The store also services players of other racquet sports, such as racquetball, badminton, squash and pickleball. Racquets are custom-strung on one of the store’s five stringing machines the same day and often while customers wait.

Sports lifestyle merchandise, with a focus on tennis and golf attire, arrives daily at the store, and includes the hot, niche brands, as well as major brands like Nike, Adidas, Titleist, Callaway, and more.

Menswear and boys’ apparel brands, such as Travis Matthew, Mizzen+Main, Devereux, Polo RXL and Chase 54 can be found, allowing youth to find styles similar or matching their Dads’ apparel. The Tennis & Golf Company also stocks a large selection of fashion companies catering to women, such as Polo Golf, Daily Sports, Lucky in Love and Belyn Key, to name a few, and a large collection of sport bras. The kids’ selection includes junior racquets, shoes, apparel and golf equipment for boys and girls.
