Thieves Have it Their Way in 'Whopper of a Theft'
While a truck driver was sleeping in Warren, someone stole 33 cases of Burger King Whoppers.

WARREN, MI – Warren Mayor Jim Fouts calls it a “Whopper of a theft.”
And he’s not being facetious — well, maybe he's a little facetious.
Someone stole 33 cases of Burger King’s signature hamburgers from the back of a delivery truck on March 25, the mayor told the Detroit Free Press this week.

A semi-truck driver couldn’t immediately unload his cargo, so he secured the doors with a padlock and took a snooze. When he awoke about 2 a.m., the shipping seal had been broken and a few cases of the burgers were missing. He went back asleep, and when he 8:30 a.m., the hungry hamburger burglars had helped themselves to seconds (and thirds, and fourths and, well, you get the idea).
Though a serious and costly crime — 33 cases is a lot of the beef, and Whoppers sell for $1.89 for a Whopper Jr. all the way up to $4.69 for an Angry Whopper — people are having a feeding frenzy of fun with it.

The Detroit Free Press, for example, dubbed the thief a “hamburglar.”
The thefts left police in quite a pickle, too. Fouts figured police would have a tough time tracking down the culprit or culprits.
“They probably consumed the evidence,” he told the newspaper.
Still, anyone who suspects they know who is responsible — perhaps they noticed unusually strong onion breath — they should hoof it to the Warren police, or make a full report at (586) 574-4800.
