Thursday, March 20 – Smokin' Jazz - Live Jazz, Barbecue & Soul Food - at the Royal Oak Farmers Market

It goes without saying that even the most diehard metro Detroiters are growing weary of Old Man Winter. The first day of Spring though is looming close on the horizon. This year, March 20 is not just the start of a new season in metro Detroit – it is the day metro Detroiters celebrate live jazz, barbecue and soul food at the Royal Oak Farmers Market with the debut of a one  evening experience called Smokin’ Jazz.

Open from 6 pm to 11 pm on Thursday, March 20, Smokin’ Jazz will feature an astounding 25 of metro Detroit’s best barbecue and soul food restaurants. Offering food from local legends like Steve’s Soul Food and The Oxford Inn to up-and-coming eateries, attendees will be entranced by the intoxicating flavors, sights and aromas of a seemingly endless number of inviting options.

A six member judging panel, consisting of local chefs, food bloggers and food writers, will award best of Metro Detroit honors for barbecue spareribs and fried chicken. Winners will be announced at 9 pm from the event’s main stage. Attendees will also have the chance to get in on the accolades with a people’s choice award being bestowed for best overall food at the event.

The alluring sounds of live music will be provided by The Elysium Experience, presenting multiple live acts ranging in jazz styles. Substantial seating will be provided close to the stage affording you that invaluable front row experience.

A selection of Michigan beers will also be served.

Tickets for this event are selling quickly. Advance tickets online are $15.00 per person, which includes $10.00 in food vouchers redeemable at any of our 25 food vendors. Tickets at the door, if still available, will be $20.00. Advance tickets can be purchased by visiting www.smokinjazzfest.com.
