Kindergarten Welcome Nights Scheduled This Week in Royal Oak

Welcome nights will be held at the Royal Oak school district's six elementary schools Jan. 12-14.

ROYAL OAK, MI – Kindergarten welcome nights are scheduled next week at Royal Oak’s six elementary schools.

The sessions, to be held Jan. 12-14, include time for parents of incoming kindergarten students to visit the school and meet the kindergarten teacher. Parents are encouraged to attend and see the building, staff, and curriculum their child will experience.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 12, 6:30 p.m. - Keller Elementary, 1505 N. Campbell
  • Tuesday, Jan. 12, 6:30 p.m. - Oakland Elementary, 2415 E. Brockton
  • Wednesday, Jan. 13, 6:30 p.m. - Addams Elementary, 2222 W. Webster
  • Wednesday, Jan. 13, 6:30 p.m. - Northwood Elementary, 926 W. 12 Mile
  • Thursday, Jan. 14, 6:30 p.m. - Oak Ridge Elementary, 506 E. 13 Mile
  • Thursday, Jan.14, 6:30 p.m. - Upton Elementary, 4400 Mandalay

Resident student enrollment for the 2016-2017 school began Monday. All enrollments are completed at the district central enrollment office, located at 800 DeVillen.

Royal Oak accepts Schools of Choice students from Oakland County in kindergarten,first, second and third grades. Applications for Schools of Choice will be available beginning Feb. 29, both on-line and at the district central enrollment office, and must be submitted by Aug. 12.

Students enrolled as Schools of Choice students may continue in Royal Oak Schools through grade 12, as long as their enrollment is continuous. Placement of students enrolled through Schools of Choice in a particular elementary school is determined on a space available basis following enrollment in the district.

To enroll in kindergarten for the 2016-2017 year, children must be at least 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2016. Information regarding enrollment of children with birthdays between Sep. 1, 2011, and Dec. 1, 2011, in kindergarten for the 2016-2017 school year may be obtained by visiting the enrollment section of the district website www.royaloakschools.org.

Families are encouraged to visit the enrollment section of the district website for information regarding the documents necessary for enrollment. The enrollment web page also provides the opportunity to complete much of the enrollment paperwork online.
