Whiz Kid: Royal Oak Teen Wins Prestigious Scholarship

Whiz Kid: Chloe Rybicki-Kler of Royal Oak

School: The Roeper School in Bloomfield Hills

Accomplishment: Sophomore Chloe Rybicki-Kler was named a Joyce Ivy Foundation Summer Scholar for 2011. Rybicki-Kler is one of 56 young women to receive the scholarship for pre-college study at top colleges and universities and has chosen to study this summer at Brown University in Providence, RI.

Rybicki-Kler will be honored at a reception and dinner May 14 in Ann Arbor, featuring an address by the 2011 Joyce Ivy Foundation Leader of the Year, Kim Schatzel. Admissions officers from several Ivy League and other leading universities will attend the event event to share their perspectives about academic life on these campuses.

Key to awesomeness: “Chloe is an outstanding, dedicated student who takes nothing for granted,” Roeper Upper School Director Lisa Baker said in a statement. “She is constantly looking for ways to challenge herself, and she engages fully in all pursuits. We are bursting with pride for Chloe.”

“These young women are exceptional in every aspect of their young lives,” Erich Bagen, Joyce Ivy Foundation board member and chairman of the Joyce Ivy Foundation committee that selects its summer scholars, said in a statement. “Academics, extracurricular activities, community service, test scores and their ability to express themselves clearly in written essays: They excel across the board. Not only that, they express a desire to expand their horizons and explore the world beyond the Midwest.”
