The Saline Hornets put on an offensive clinic against the Adrian Maples Tuesday night. The game was stopped less than ten minutes into the second half as the Hornets mercied their opponent 8-0.
“I was glad to see us come out focused; we were serious, because you never want to come out expecting to win,” said head coach Dana Restrick.
The first half started off a little slow for Saline as the team worked to get their feet under them. Play was almost exclusively in the Hornets’ offensive zone, and Eddie Mussi broke the 0-0 tie at 30:00. Victor Pintilie scored his first goal of the night at 15:22 to put Saline up 2-0, and Mussi scored his second goal to wrap up the first half scoring at 9:31. Saline’s 3-0 score going into the half was not truly indicative of how dominant the Hornets were in the half; keeper Kyler Jacobs touched the ball a grand total of once, and that time was because he called off defenders that were more than capable of catching up to the errant Maples pass.

After the break, Saline came out and quickly put Adrian out of the match. Zach Gordon would open the flood gates with a goal at 38:42. Pintilie used his ball skills and one-on-one ability to weave through defenders and beat the Adrian keeper for his second goal at 35:56; he then made it 6-0 a minute later. Sam Gregory got into the scoring action at 33:34 with a strong shot that beat the Maples keeper easily, and Luke Collins put the final goal of the evening in the net at 31:43. Saline scored five goals in the first ten minutes of the second half and the Hornet defense was barely active throughout the game to send Adrian home with an 8-0 loss.
“[Victor’s] one-v-one attacking skills are unparrelled by anyone else on the team. He has a great shot and is confident, and that’s what you want in a forward, even being a little cocky,” said Restrick.
