Lake Express to begin selling tickets for 2012 season; High-speed ferry also hiring for Milwaukee and Muskegon positions

Spring is in the air, which means preparations for the 2012 Lake Express sailing season are underway in both Milwaukee and Muskegon as ticket agents help customers make travel plans and crews ready Lake Michigan’s fast ferry for a ninth season of service.

Passengers can begin buying tickets for the 2012 season on Monday, March 12th. Convenient daily service, featuring fast 2-1/2 hour crossings with modern comfort and amenities will begin on May 4th, and continue through the end of October. Tickets can be purchased using the ferry’s online reservation system by visiting www.lake-express.com or by calling 866-914-1010.

Additionally, Lake Express is now taking applications for employment during the 2012 sailing season.

Professional, friendly, reliable and customer-service oriented individuals are wanted for a variety of positions available in both the Milwaukee and Muskegon terminals.

Open positions in Milwaukee, include: facility manager, customer service supervisors, customer service representatives, security personnel, food and beverage manager, and café attendants.

Open positions at the Muskegon terminal, include: terminal manager, customer service supervisors, sales center personnel, janitorial and maintenance staff, customer service representatives, and security personnel.

Marine crew shipboard positions, which are based in Milwaukee, include: captains and mates with appropriate license and credentials, lead deck hands, deck hands, engineering wiper/cleaner. Hospitality and cabin staff positions include: lead steward, stewards, second steward, and cabin attendants.

Starting pay rates for seasonal positions range from $10 to $14.50 per hour. Marine crew positions requiring licensing offer industry-competitive pay rates. Most positions are 30 to 40 hours per week and may include first and/or second shift, holidays and weekends. More information can be found at www.lake-express.com.

Lake Express is an eco-friendly ferry, and has been Travel Green Certified by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism since 2008.

About the Lake Express: The Milwaukee-based Lake Express ferry began service in 2004, and it is the Midwest’s only high-speed auto/passenger ferry. The ferry accommodates 250 passengers, and holds up to 46 vehicles and 12 motorcycles. With terminals in both Milwaukee, Wis. and Muskegon, Mich., Lake Express makes multiple daily trips across Lake Michigan, with each voyage totaling two and one-half hours.
