
MIDLAND, Dec. 1, 2011 -- The Michigan Amateur Softball Association (MASA) will induct Saline's Greg Shea into the organization’s state softball Hall of Fame in the category of Manager in ceremonies in Midland on Saturday, January 21.
Shea’s career in softball spanned almost 30 years, during which he managed men’s and coed slow pitch softball teams sponsored by Washington Street Station and Roundtree Bar & Grill in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area.

Under Shea’s leadership, the Roundtree Bar & Grill squads collected back-to-back Coed Class B State championships in 2004 and 2005, captured the Men’s 35-and-over State title in 2006, and finished as runners-up in the Men’s Class D and Men’s Class C state tournaments in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

On a national level, Shea’s Roundtree coed teams finished fourth in the ASA Class B national tournament in Bismarck, North Dakota in 2005, seventh in the ASA Class A national tournament in Alton, Illinois in 2007, and won the ASA Class A national championship in Tallahassee, Florida in 2008, the first ASA coed national title ever collected by a Michigan team.
Locally, Shea competed in MASA-sanctioned leagues in Ann Arbor, Saline, and Ypsilanti from 1985 to 2010, collecting numerous league titles in men’s and coed divisions, as well as three MASA District 5 (Ann Arbor) men’s championships.
The Washington Street Station and Roundtree Bar & Grill teams stand as exemplary MASA teams, known in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti-area among opponents, umpires, and administrators for their ability to balance competitiveness and sportsmanship.
