Ypsilanti Area Jaycees Honored At State Conference

MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN – (05/12/2013) – The Ypsilanti Area Jaycees were honored by the Michigan Junior Chamber with a Management Development Vice President Award of Excellence at the Jaycees' Spring Leadership Conference held here on May 10-12.

“I'm so proud of our chapter and everything we have doe over the past few months,” said 2013 Local President Rose Peruski. “We established a good foundation to continue our mission of building the community and building ourselves.

“I am excited to see how we apply this and what we accomplish in the coming months!”

The Vice President Award of Excellence is awarded by the state in each of the Junior Chamber's Areas of Opportunity.

The weekend long assembly celebrated the accomplishments of Jaycee chapters from across the state, and featured leadership and personal development trainings for attendees.

     Members of the Ypsilanti Area Jaycees were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in the opening months of 2013 in several areas.

James Dreher was recognized in the Michigan Jaycees' Vice President's Parade for the 1st Trimester. Dreher, the 2013 Local Management Development Vice President, finished first in the state-wide parade of local officers.

The Vice President's Parade recognizes executive local officers from across the state for their contributions in their officer roles and as members of their local chapters.

Abby Smith, the 2000 Local President of the Ypsilanti Area Jaycees and current State Chair Coordinator, was the recipient of the first State Presidential Medallion for 2013.

The Presidential Medallion is a recognition program to recognize officers and members from across the state for going above and beyond to improve the Junior Chamber.

     Local members were recognized for reaching membership milestones. Kristen Mishler and Camillia Bragg both received new degrees from the Jaycees. Mishler, the 2012 Local President, was recognized for achieving her sixth degree, and Bragg, a 2013 Local Director, received her second degree.

     The Degrees of Jaycees Program is an initiative of the United States Junior Chamber to ensure that members receive a well rounded experience across all facets of the organization.

Jr. Jaycees, the children or relatives of Jaycee members, were also recognized for their attendance and participation in Jaycee Projects and Meetings. Jr. Jaycees honored by the state this weekend were: Liam Auker, son of Joseph and Toni Auker; Cadence Towler, niece of Kaylee Towler; and Vincent Edwards, son of Lisa Atkins.

The Ypsilanti Area Jaycees is a local chapter of the United States Junior Chamber, which represents more than 18,200 young adults in over 680 chapters across the country. Jaycee chapters focus on empowering its members to create positive change in their communities and in themselves by developing leadership skills.
