Are You Ready to Be a Wish-A-Mile Star?

On Sunday, July 28, several member of the RydeOn! family will be doing our part to make wishes come true for Michigan children with life-threatening illnesses. How? By riding a short fifty miles during Make-A-Wish of Michigan's annual Wish-A-Mile 50 event.

RydeOn! team 50 is the idea of our dear RydeOn! “sister” Tina Farraro of Saline, who has offered to take the lead in creating our team and leading us to victory for the kids.

How hard is a fifty mile bike ride? Let's put it in the context of one of our usual indoor cycling classes. During a RydeOn! class most participants pedal about twenty miles – but that's a hard twenty miles where everyone is pushing as hard as they can to get the most out of their workout.

On July 28, though, Wish-A-Mile 50 riders will have more than six hours to complete the trip.

In other words, completing the Wish-A-Mile 50 is to a typical RydeOn! indoor cycling workout about what strolling Ann Arbor's Arboretum is to running a 10K race.

(That said, we of course urge you to get ready to join RydeOn! team 50 by coming to classes regularly, eating well, and in general taking good care of yourself.)

Registration for the Wish-A-Mile 50 event is just $50, and Make-A-Wish of Michigan asks each participant to raise just $300 each. That's a small price to pay for a fun day of outdoor biking with the RydeOn! family – and a very small price to pay to light up the eyes of a child who has already known more challenges than some of adults ever face.
